Love the Sinner

Let’s think a minute about the statement oft used that is, “Love the sinner, hate the sin.” It would seem tht is not a very Biblical approach to dealing with people. If we are to put on Christ, and live as He would have us, then we should model His approach to sin and to sinners. It seems apparent in the last 4 chapters of Revelation that Jesus does not love the sinner. In fact, two great battles are completed by the Lord wiping out all the unbelievers with the Word of His mouth. Is this loving them, or do we confuse patience with love?

You then say, but Jesus said to “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Was He talking about loving your sinning neighbor in the same way you love your sinning self? How can I love my sinning self, when the only way I can glorify God is to bear the spiritual fruit of righteousness. My sin does not glorify Him. I keep myself in a status of short accounts, and pray that my neighbor will do the same. If my neighbor falls on hard times, am I to reject him. Obviously not. But is this a call to love him if he continues to wear the cloak of sin even though it is causing him pain and suffering?

Just a thought.

I can’t agree with your position on “Love the Sinner” hate the “Sin”. It makes no sense that we can say I hate the act, yet still be in good graces with the unrepentant heart that chooses not to turn from their life of sin and honor God. God is an amazing God and he desires and deserves our obedience.

What we think, what we do, who we are, our very being should be a reflection of God in whom our image was crafted after. He is a holy and righteous God. If our God was not Holy he would allow us to live our life of sin and allow us to do the immoral, but because he is Holy and righteous his anger and wrath will be poured out on those who do not choose to align themselves with him.

So let’s thank Jesus? Why? Because Jesus being perfect as he was and still is today went to the cross to be the object of God’s wrath on our behalf. Praise God. What kind of love we truly have from our father that we are to be saved by his grace.

Thank you for your wisdom and insight Pastor Corbit. May God bless you as you fruitfully step forward with his message.

I can’t agree with your position anymore is what I was meaning to say. I agree completely. I must have been so excited about your position that I couldn’t finish my sentence. It’s just proof that even Godly men make errors.

You are challenging an old axiom that I use. I am trying to ask an intelligent question that is not simplistic nor easy. I work with a few different ladies and they are living with their boyfriends. Am I to avoid these people? A couple of them know my stance on it and the reason behind it, but am I to decide that I can’t love them?
